Windsor Brass Success at the 2009 State Championships

Windsor Brass competed in the Queensland State Band Championships in Maryborough over the Queens Birthday Weekend. The band performed four pieces and a street march over the two days in the B-grade category and, although were not successful in taking out any of the individual events, earned an impressive Second Place overall in the aggregate cup. This is a great result for Windsor Brass, and a testament to the band's preparation and hard work, their consistency in performance, and their fantastic and inspiring leadership by conductor Michael Purtle.

Brave Windsor Brass players Mark Nettle, Jeff Herbert, Michael Johannessen, and Rowan Yates also competed in the open solo performances and proved to be serious competitors against players from the A-grade bands.

Windsor Brass' big brother Excelsior, led by Howard Taylor, dominated the A-grade competition, taking out each individual event and the overall championship by a remarkable margin of 18 points! Brisbane Excelsior's musical prowess and maturity is always evident in their performances, and sets a great example for Windsor Brass and a high standard to continue striving towards.

The time spent away not only highlighted Windsor's dedication to producing quality and entertaining brass band music, but also gave band members a chance to interact and bond on a more personal level. This will no doubt have positive implications for the band's future development on both a social and musical level.
