Craig began playing the Cornet at the age of four and started his banding career with Cambridge Municipal Band in New Zealand. He played solo cornet with Trustbank Rotorua Brass from 1981-84 in the A Grade and again from 1990-93. Craig then relocated to Auckland and played for Continental Airlines Auckland Brass before shifting to Australia. He joined Townsville Brass in 1996 and conducted the No. 2 band from 1998-2000 taking this band up to C Grade. He then conducted the senior band taking them to A Grade in 2001.
Craig is an Instrumental Music Teacher with Education Queensland and he thinks one of the most enjoyable parts of his job is to see students that he has taught in the past, still playing in community bands or as in some cases, professionally. Playing with Brisbane Excelsior is a privilege as he plays with not just excellent musicians, but with great people who provide a lot of their own time back to the community. Whether it is travelling to China to perform or playing in a National Championship winning band, it is always an honour to be a part of Brisbane Excelsior and makes him want to be better in all things that he does.
Craig’s musical achievements include:
- National Youth Band of New Zealand 1981-84
- 1984 NZ Nationals 2nd Open Bb Amateur Cornet
- 2000 Qld State Championships 1st Open Tenor Horn
- 2015 Australian Nationals 4th Open Bb Cornet
- 2015 Qld State Championships 2nd Open Bb Cornet
