In the Queensland State Band Championships held over the June Queen’s birthday weekend, Windsor Brass again came out on top in the B Grade Championships. In 2010 Windsor won the State Championship for the first time in its short but successful history, and has achieved this again by winning in 2011 under the guidance of conductor Michael Purtle, and, has added to this success by also winning the Marching section under the leadership of Drum Major Allen Clark this year. In stage performance, the band was placed first in both the Hymn and Test Piece, second in the On Stage March and third in the Own Choice. This success comes after a lot of hard work for all its members and was particularly pleasing for the new recruits who gained valuable experience in this rigorous competition. With such a balanced mix of youth and experience, the signs are good for the band going into next year’s competition, with the goal of completing a hat-trick.
