Spending a fun, sunny day up on the Sunshine Coast, Windsor Brass competed in the Festival of Brass at Maroochydore on Sunday 25 October.
Windsor performed a varied set with pieces such as Eve of War, Elegy, the Theme from Sex and the City, and the Incredibles. Windsor also played a unique rendition of the Magnificent Seven, with the opening and finishing themes of this piece performed on glass bottles.
Conductor Michael Purtle’s determination to give a crowd-pleasing performance was rewarded with Windsor winning the trophy for the most entertaining band. Windsor’s technique and musicality was also recognised, and Windsor placed third in the competition overall. This was just one point behind Toowoomba Brass, and only a few points shy of A-Grade competitors South Brisbane Federal Band – a great achievement for Windsor!
Windsor Brass’ performances throughout 2009 have established the band as serious competitors in the B-Grade Brass Band scene and place the band in a great position heading into the Nationals to be held in Tasmania early 2010. Good luck Windsor Brass!
