Brisbane Excelsior Band competed at the 157th British Open Championships on September 12. Punching well above their weight, Excelsior placed 10th after performing at Symphony Hall Birmingham the challenging test piece, Titan’s Progress by Hermann Pallhuber.

A tremendous achievement, Excelsior saw off British bands ranked over twenty positions higher in the 4barsrest world rankings to place mid-field amongst the very best brass bands in the world. It has been many decades since an Australian band has been selected to compete in this prestigious, invitation only event.

This is a supreme testament to the exceptional level of brass banding in Australia and most of all, Howard Taylor and the players of Brisbane Excelsior.
